The very best way is... to use Campfires. Or Bonfires. The reason is, every item on the list avatar.zero linked to does the player base thing, but they all also act as a target for monsters.
Campfires and Bonfires not. They can still be destroyed... but monsters don't target them to destroy them.

If you want to fully proof[/p] your base... just dot the area with Campfires. What I usually do is pull my hammer out and select the Workbench as a measurement(it has the dotted line in 15 meter which is the player base radius)... and then make the line touch slightly other Campfires... then switch the Workbench with the Campfire and place it. Ideally you use your Hoe to mark the spot by use "pathing" so in case the campfire gets destroyed... you see the spot easier. Or raise it up one notch, works good too.

In theory all you would need to do, is place the Campfires in a way that their radius just slightly touch each other... but since you can't see it... I usually go for the overkill and let them overlap generously.
So far, my Plains base is Deathsquito free and Goblins only spawn far far away at night. Since Campfires are no target for them, they just spawn... have no target in range... and stand there not bothering me.

There is a mod, that lets you use a button to show every object that points a Player Base... it is just pretty intensive when you turn it on.
