The game has a very clear way to be played. Go and fight the bosses to unlock access to new things. It has nothing to do with "assuming". Its literally how the game is played.

Some things are not that obvious though. Like having to make nails in order to get the Karve and cart into the build menu. If you avoided the crypts in the black forest you could not know about portals. There is nothing in the game that forces the player to do those things.

It is quite possible to have some blind spots if you just missed picking up something. It could happen easily to anyone.
