This won't answer to your question (sorry), but I'd still like to say that in late game, after gaining access to current top tier gear and food, and after leveling character skills sufficiently, enemy density isn't a problem unless you're going really cheap on food (which is kinda your own fault ;) ). I'd suggest any new players to experience the game in its intended state before looking to modify things. :) But hopefully somebody else can provide answer to OP.
