Start a new character on a new map. Let them learn the ropes from the start without cheesing what you already know. It's far more satisfying, IMO.

Everything is tied to the map, not the player, so if your friend joins your map, he will miss out on the beginning stages of the game, but he can use the drops you've gotten.
