I've used G-portal for various services for the last three years. Never had an issue with them.

Your "data" was lost the first time, and they told you to make sure you back it up. You don't and you're surprised it got lost a second time? That's 100% your fault.
The files that you need to back up don't even take up the same amount of space as a photo. For Chirsts sake you could get a free google drive account and store them there 100% free.

I've been hosting servers with my own equipment or through third party hosts for about 10 years. It never ceases to surprises me when people that complain about what hosts "should do" without thinking they need to take any personal responsibility themselves. Just because you throw money at a host doesn't mean it's completely hands off.

I'd recommend you stay away from running a server. If backing up two files smaller than a picture is too hard for you, or you ask a stupid question as "Why would I use my own hard drive". It's clear you don't understand how things work and wouldn't be fair to the other players that would be unfortunate enough to play of your server.
