The difference that I find objectionable is that we've completely stepped beyond the starting premise. We are now not just 'dead warriors given new life in the 10th world on a mission from a god and granted certain favors after sacrafices' all of a sudden we are warrior/mages.

[edit] Now the emphasis on blunt weapons early on becomes clear - we're supposed to be classic D&D priests not warriors.
