I had a surtling invasion today, they all drowned in my moat :) I do agree with the above poster though, troll invasions are really sucky. It is after I had an invasion that wiped out my new base that I started going for massive fortifications, ditches and so on. Either make them ineffective by defences or be prepared to lose all.
