Hey everyone, I've had this on my radar since it came out but I've been burned on new games with online communities dying immediately after it got popular so I held off until now. It's been a year and it seems like there is a healthy playerbase still so I'm taking a look at Valheim again and I had a few questions if someone could help answer them.

1. What's the point of building a base? Is it just for the satisfaction of creating a base or does it serve a purpose beyond an area to store your items and crafting tables? Can it be attacked by mobs?

2. Is the world infinitely generated similar to something like Minecraft? If so and you wander off into the distance how do you know your way back?

3. What happens if you die? Do you lose what you had on you?

4. How does the game run? I have a Ryzen 1700, GTX 1060 6gb, 32gb of RAM and if need be I can install it on an SSD.

5. What if I built a base and some time down the road I decide to move some place else, how do you move items and materials from one place to another? Do boats have storage on them?

Thanks in advance!

1. Yes it can be attacked by mobs, but you can also build defensive walls, trenches and other things to protect them. You can tame creatures in the game and bases can also be thus where you breed more from your tames for resources or fighting/protection. Also for crafting there are certain refining stations as well that need a place. And lastly there is growing crops for food and other resources/crafting.

2. Maps have a finite parameter and you can fall off the edge of the world if not careful. However the maps are huge. You can use the valheim map seed generator to see various worlds and their size, though the map makes it hard to see the scale of them but they are pretty big.

3. Death creates a "tombstone" you can go back and collect your stuff from the tombstone. However dying at sea or in some other spots with lots of mobs may be a challenge to recover, though with patience you should be able to.

4. You can play the game fine how ever if you build/breed too much, just like with most games, the rendering will cause your frames to drop.

5. Boats have storage. There is also a cart a player can pull. Riding a Lox(lizard ox) can also negate weight restrictions. If you play on multiple maps in single player you can also map hop to move things. There are also portals you can make and move all things except raw ore and metal ingots.
