Follow your previous path, because you're already cleared it, but still sneak anyway just in case. I know you can't sneak and mountain goat at the same time, so alternate between short bursts of movement when it's clear, followed by sitting still in sneak mode. Move, stop, move, stop. The tall rocks are good at breaking line of sight.

This! Yesterday I foolishly jumped from a mountain into the black fog. landed on an Infected Mine I didn't know was there. 3 Seekers on top, one was a 2*. It did not end well for me.
