Using a portal isn't cheating, it's a fundamental part of the game. Portals won't allow you to move metals or eggs, which brings the challenge to the game. You will eventually travel long distances and you will die far from home. Do you really want to have to make another boat and sail for many game days just to get your gear back? When I land on a new continent, the first thing I do is set up a portal and I don't consider it cheating.
