To be frank I think the problem a lot of people have with the swamp is psychological. It is dark, dank and keeps you slow and careful. Then the crypts are filled with poop to slosh through.

Personally I got over it and find the biome one of my favorites now. Cost of items isn't too bad. For solo you don't need that much even fully ranking up your armor and equipment.

I prepare well by scouting and placing portals on top of crypts even before beating the elder. So for me the swamp is over too quickly.

The real problem, to me, is just how difficult is this game going to be when the final biome is introduced? How will the difficulty increase in the swamps will compare to the rest of the game? I guess only time will tell.
