Iron or better is required for Silver and Obsidian. Bronze cannot mine anything that the Antler one can't. The real benefit of the Bronze Pickaxe is that you can get it without having to do Eikthyr at all. Additionally, the extra durability is useful when starting Crypts, I suppose.

Thanks for letting me know on that. Been a while and I forgot how the tiers worked, or if they even mattered or you just needed the wishbone etc. I think I ended up quitting the last time I played after just getting silver (was doing it solo a few years back - may have lost interest due to losing a bunch of items / another game was in my radar). I dont think I ever beat the dragon boss.

Should have made the attempt to get bronze without killing Eikythyr. I think I could have managed it with a level 2 Crude bow. For instance, just for the hell of it, yesterday, I kept kiting a troill to mine 2 nodes (pretty close to each other) of copper ore. Took him down to one or two arrow shots, then just played around with dodging til the entire area was knocked down with a few awkward spikes of copper to take care of.

Took a couple of trips on the Carve but it was worth it.

Next playthrough I may have to attempt that before killing Eikythyr. Seems like camping out in the Black Forest for that objective could be a lot of fun.

I think I just talked myself into something on a Steam forum. Thats a new one.
