There are many ways to work around structural integrity. Some more cheesy than others. You can build quite high in mistlands:

You can do similar things with swamp trees, but not nearly as high.
You can also use the land/dirt to build quite high. This was built up a cliff, but you could make a pile of dirt in the middle of your house to build around, I would imagine.

If the block/beam is blue, it's essentially at ground level.
