I originally refunded the game a couple months ago within the 2 hour window for 3 reasons.
1. I found the controls a little bit clunky
2. I found the textures off putting i instantly started looking for HD mods
3. I found myself in the early game struggling to get the basics out of the way before nightfall and it got so dark at night it was frustrating. It didn't feel very friendly at first or ease you in.
With that said, i watch this game like a hawk and i keep asking myself "if it's got so many overwhelming reviews from literally hundreds of thousands of players, i must be wrong in my assessment".
I'm tempted to buy again and just commit to it instead of rushing my first 2 hours to determine if i should refund it. I love survival games, i played Conan Exiles to death on multiple platforms.
With the small discount on offer right now it's almost worth it to push through for 1 weekend and love or hate it after that it's probably got me my monies worth since i'll probably spend more than the cost of the game down the pub tonight in less than 1 hour lol
I enjoy the game. I would say get it again and give it a good go.
I play it solo, also with my wife and now with my grandson. My grandson is a bit young for the game so it's a bit of a chore but hey he's my grandson. Anyway back to topic.
My advice is as you're running around pick up stones, wood, berries and mushrooms and eat said berries and mushrooms. I make a club, an axe and a hammer in that order. Cut down a tree or two for more wood on your travels or chop up the logs you see on the ground. Most important stay in the meadows.
Try to find the coastline and find a place to set up some very basic shelter. All you need is a crafting table with 3 walls immediately behind it and 3 x 45 degree roof pieces coming off those walls and over your crafting table. Place a fire down and you're set for the night. It will be a long boring wait till daylight though. With a bit more wood you can make a bed (needs to be sheltered like the table) and sleep away the night. If you killed animals and have meat place 2 cooking racks over the fire and cook your meat. Keep an eye on it as it will burn and turn into coal.
After that explore find a place you really want to settle, make a hoe, level the land and begin your real journey.
