That's why I started traveling larger distances picking up rocks/branches or farming grey dwarf nests for wood and stone. Its unlimited that way.
Then I'm very selective when choosing the pine and birch trees I cut down for the higher quality woods. I space the areas out between cutting them down so its practically unnoticeable.
My world still looks pristine and I replanted my base area. Its just extra time traveling, but that can be useful for combining it with berry runs or some light copper mining, for instance.
So there are definitely more "green" ways to play. The most destructive thing to the forest is the trolls who live there for me XD
