if you are scared of attacks... Dig a big hole in the ground and make a roof above the hole.
Next put your tamed animals down there where nobody can see them.
Then they are safe.
But in general i never had issues with building a tall fence arround example the pigs and an outher wall arround my base. Alternative div a trench in front of your fence then the enemy will not get across ( except the trolls )
