Well , i have a little plain farm island full of workbench to stop spawn and guess what , no one monster bothers me anymore , mosquitos not exist anymore there
And drakes and mosquitos spawns from the ground taking flight, not just in mid air ( you can see this with drakes when you are close to a egg nest )

if you didn't leave a little space, they can spawn even up there
