You can build a saddle and ride them. Pretty useful for long hauls that you need to travel fast. The controls is a little clunky though.
Other than that they just keep enemies away and fight them around your base. Can't even breed them sadly. I just keep one around for protection and a ride if i need one.

Got a tar pit you need to clear? Ride you lox there. Get off and run away; watch him go to work.
