What's so "late game" about the Obliterator? Everything necessary to build it becomes available once you've defeated the second of (currently) 6 bosses.

second boss? I made it as soon as I'd killed first boss and could mine metal, I'd already found Haldor and bought the thunderstone prior to killing Eikthyr, cheapest thing in game at only 50 gold.
