I have a portal hub at my base surrounded with spikes. I name my hub portals by the alphabet(a, b, c, d....). Then i travel and explore. I find a suitable area to place a portal on and name it as a or b or c or d.....that's how it work. Each single portal needs a second portal of the same name.
