When you hit things, the color of inflicted damage numbers indicates if the target has a weakness or a resistance to your attack type, or neither of them. But I guess that this is not easy to think about when fighting a boss, or even a first-time mob.

Like in any other game, there is a needed time to get familiar with the various interfaces (inventory management, crafting, building), but it's nothing special.

I'd advise to note on a paper the keybindings, especially how to run fast (I played more than a hundred in-game days before I read about it). It's a life-insurance.
Try to use the stealth mode most of the time, even if it slows you down, because it will train passively, and it's not that evident that it should be.

At first, note down on the map every single resource node, and where you saw mobs (either game or hostiles). But frankly, when you get experienced and equipped, you'll just collect things as you stumble on them.
