Ambient sound is important for finding enemies and resources... and done very well... so normally I turn my music off especially when playing a game I am unfamiliar with.

With the number of hours I can sink into a game any soundtrack, no matter how much I may like it, will get stale to me.

I use the steam music player for background when I want it. But more often than not I would rather hear the environment clearly.
