about pre mistlands -
sounds like you're pretty much fine; I still have some problems parrying fulings too (esp. big ones), but against fulings and wolves i also tend to use the atgeir, keeps the mobs at distance (higher range and ~360° secondary attack) and makes kiting easier since you can walk faster (less use of running for kiting / dodging = more stamina for fighting back) and pick off singled out targets easier. With atgeir I usually do not need rolls, but do parry sometimes for the stagger effect on the enemies when they're too strong to be staggered by the secondary attack.
learning to parry will be quite essential for melee later on though, but having bonemass defeated you also have this nice resistance buff, which is excellent not only for tough situations or bosses but also for training purposes :)

about mistland mobs ("bonemass moment") -
short answer: yes and no - there is a small bonemass moment, kinda. But I'm also one of those guys who simply shot through 2 bows to defeat/weaken bonemass (repaired the bow, logistics ftw!) and crafted so many fire arrows in advance that i still had some stacks left afterwards i think.
But you will have to chew through those moments first if you are not suuuper lucky with your biome generation before you get your new toy to make stuff a little to a lot easier. As in every new biome.
Anyway, I recommend having a frostner (1h hammer) and a blackmetal roundshield as well as a good bow on you along with a lot of ammo (i had needle and frost arrows, was ok-ish). And on top of that maybe a blackmetal atgeir.. gotta recommend it, i love it. A Sword actually is between ok and good quite often for slashing tiny trashmobs grouped with bigger mobs, eg... however, swords strike apparently quite horizontal, and i feel as if i end up having more misses due to terrain than with an atgeir or Frostner.

however, when going to mistlands, do not forget to bring some potions and resistances as well as your best food. I went for maximum health + health reg since i didn't really know what to expect. It worked well for me, but i guess it's down to personal preferences and FPS (try a dodge and backstack build with ~15 fps lol). Oh, and maybe set up at least one >extra< portal up for the way back home :')
