I'm not sure what you are talking about. Meadows are much peaceful during the day. You can be disturbed by Greydwarfs at night, but nothing that you can't overcome. If you don't want to deal with them at night, just sleep the night and the time fast forward to the next day, where you can work at your ease.

For resources, yes, you need to work for them and plan some journeys to acquire what you need, but that is just what the game meant to be.

If I don't like outcome of combat being determined by dice in boardgame, I just don't play Risk. If I don't like to be stressed and scared when watching movies, I don't watch horror movies, because that's what they are.

I haven't just started playing, I've done over 200 hours, and explored all over the world, making pointless boat trips to carry metal from one part of the continent to another, which makes teleporters absolutely useless. To be able to face the mountains you need the wolf skin, a pity that to get the wolf skin you need to go to the mountains and die of cold while being attacked (or make some Frost resistance meads, starting from 10 Honey 5 Thistle 2 Bloodbag and 1 Greydwarf eye and use a fermenter for 2 (!) days), and in the meantime you die countless times with the raids that come from the swamp, forest and so on. The game isn't hard, it's boring which is much worse,
