you will be fine in level 3. It is worth upgrading your shield, maybe, if you block a lot.
I highly recommend using a mace instead of a sword. Most of the swamp is more vulnerable to blunt and swords are far less useful there.

much of your time will be in crypts that have pathing issues for enemy, making it fairly easy to manage if you are well fed and decently geared.
