Good choice, I'm on my second playthrough and I've never touched any mod. Game is beautiful and has it's charm as it is.
Be careful when you get into a new biome, plan ahead and always have a retreat plan (portal back home)
As beautiful as the game is, as merciless it is, when you rush into a new biome and die from the new fears over there....

You're right. Died 3 times, after i crossed the sea. Built a raft and crossed it again to get my stuff back.
Actually i play in the swampland. First i thought this is my End and i lose the fun, but then i watched a few youtube guides and now i feel like a real viking veteran xDD
Built my first metal armor ...
