This is on the notion you're using Steam Cloud. If you do manage to retrieve your save, make sure to turn off Steam Cloud afterwards. Back-up your game world every now and then.

I go to my recent save files on steam cloud and there are literally 2 from this morning and then one from Jan 28, there should be tons, I see world saved about every 15 or so minutes...
