How come? In my experience they actually blend better since they have smoother surface. No more rocks clipping through fences, less "z-fighting" and that sort of thing.

I just find it an odd and somewhat unhelpful mix of pieces. They're also not much more stable than stone, and they don't gain support well from iron. The 2x2x2 blocks should be able to encase iron and benefit from the reinforcement however they must sit on top of iron, which means the underside of whatever (e.g. a ceiling) is ugly as - negating the usefulness of less ugly stone.
