Easy way to get fine wood with basic axe, giving you an early bow upgrade hich really helps.; find the white birch tree surrounded by lots of beech trees. Tree's tend to fall away from the side you're cutting from, cut all the surrounding trees so that they fall onto the birch. It's pretty easy to get the other trees to knock it down. once on the ground keep cutting trees so that they fall onto the birch logs. If you're lucky you can get them to be crushed to fine wood with out rolling. if not, find a stone or stump, and roll the birch logs towards them. they will break after a few impacts. It's super easy if you find one on a slop resting against a rock/stump. just push it back up hill a bit, then jump up and over it and it will roll back and hit the rock.
You can literally have a fine wood bow in your first few minutes ;)
