So, if you wish to get the new content, as with every expansion, you need to re-roll your map. You might just create a new map with the same seed, so you already know the parts you explored.

That's what I did when the Ice Caves were released. But then I was just in Bronze Age and didn't really have much.

that's the main reason I stopped playing this. Shouldn't have to reset your progress because the game gets a big update. I don't know any other game that functions like that.

You didnt play much then , every game that have random generate seeds do this or worst , like 7 days to die where you have to full reset your game each Alpha patch
