Perhaps the devs could add an NPC to fly in every so often to point you in the right direction?

To be fair, the one thing I initially completely missed was the "repair" button - it just looked like an image indicating "toolbox is here" rather than a button that would do something. I think had crafted 4 or 5 axes before I realised I didn't have to keep replacing broken ones...
