You have a point there but agroing a troll and taking it to a swamp is a bit difficult if your still geared for Dark Forest and/or there isn't a swamp around.
I have to disagree with the pursue distance being OK, It makes running away impossible, so if you accidentally pickup up a troll when you don't have the gear for it, like you just started the game, its not going to be much fun.
Actually, that does sound like alot of fun to me, get ting chased by a huge troll while woefully underprepared, will sure teach me to watch what I'm doing more. The environement is hostile as it should be in a survival game. Just imagine the sense of relief when you finally find a burial mound or some other skellies to lure the troll onto and then making your escape...
Thats . . . . . Thats . . . . . No.
Thats someone saying something with the hindsight of having already played the game through a few times.
Thats not the words of someone who is starting the game FOR THE FIRST TIME.
H&H has done something to the spawns. It's horrible now.
You can be sneaky sneak all you want, you can be AS careful as you can be with as much prep as you can. But that Troll just appears from nowhere now, and the Greys are just spawning right next to you. There is not warning, there is no lead up. There is you, resource gathering (Which is so out of whack right now, you have to gather so much and expose yourself to MASSIVE amounts of damage from mobs, just to build the smallest of things) and then there is a troll, then the're Dwarves. And then just as you think you've managed to get away, you get one shot by an angry Boar you never knew was there.
I have got to drop the game again. They really pushed their 'difficulty' level in this update.
I just can't justify to myself the amount of TIME it takes to gather everything you need to progress in the game to then be completely banjaxxed by random spawns in confusing conditions with a stamina system that just steals any joy from the game.
Its a pleasure to admire the landscape, it's a pleaseure to progress at a steady pace and learning the biomes. It's a pleasure to craft and grow your homestead and adapt to conditions. Though not neccesarily a pleasure, it's an understandable element of the game to have hard hitting enemy's and enviromental conditions.
It's a pleasure to explore. A pleasure to take you're boat out and see the wind take the sail.
But whats not a pleasure is looking for a landing spot, thinking all is quiet, try and start a foward base (stamina reduction) take out a fuling or two you spot coming (stamina reduction), work with the flying death mozzies (stamina reduction) whilst still trying to gain a foothold in building a base of sorts (stamina reduction). Run out of wood, need to cut more (Stamina reduction). Need more gear from the boat (stamina reduction) Fight another Fuling (Stamina reduction).
And before you know it, night has fallen, because you're busy still trying to manage stamina and create an escape portal (stamina reduction), then you get caught between a fuling Greydwarf mega war, with black blobs stripping you of movement and health, and then getting mozzie attack and you have nowhere to go and no ability to do anything because of STAMINA.
Thats a long boat. Thats silver wolf armour. Thats all the best cooking you can make.
And thats hours and hours of work JUST to get the one set you need to start exploring. And you get screwed over at the first landfall.
Ain't no fun chasing headstones around the map in areas you can't play in anymore because things are just spawning right in front of you whilst you are trying to do something the game wants you to do.
I'll be back at the next update to see how they work all this out.
Untill then, I am not ashamed to say its too hard.
