I guess what it comes down to is that creative folks find ways to do amazing stuff because that is how their minds work. The rest of us are more linear and probably need to look at more thinks like shown above. I have also seen and made some amazing glass walls combined with the beams and logs. Then there are fabulous walls you can make from the two different X pieces. And you can also mix stone and wood, especially the tarred pieces and the lattice and incorporate the raven and wolf decorations. You can also mix the Xs onto stone walls for large lattice patterns, use roofing as walls. Human Imagination is still a fine tool, if often overlooked.
