The tame critter cap seems to have been set by Loki, God of Mischief, at around infinity or whatever kills your computer first. I cranked out about 200 **boars once and 7-12fps was the result. Fortunately my gaming skill set includes playing ARK on a very low end laptop while business traveling so I could keep my structures from decaying due to the timer limits lol. It was pretty similar to stop-action photography and in the single digit fps realm.

After I decimated the boars with the butcher knife my knife skill was noticeably improved. It hadn't occurred to me that would happen so it was a happy wtf moment.
