every INCH must be covered in the proximity you want to cover for your base with the base structure radius, easy way to check is get out your hammer and go over whatever to detect if a workbench is "present" even if theres a tiny tiny bit of land that says theres no workbenches, mobs WILL spawn there. You have to be thorough.

Wolves and Loxes need to be kept in either stone or earthen enclosures. For Loxes I made a stone walled pasture and in another area made a pen out of one of the Plains stone henge/arena areas. Loxes don't have trouble with anything except frost drakes and groups of tar monsters, so it's pretty safe to keep them outside. Personally I don't think wolf taming is worth it they're too fragile to do anything with, a single hit from a frostdrake or fuling and they're gone.
