This is a beginner's mistake, indeed. Never jump while in action, except when you are just frollicking to rally point B from point A (and you are rested).
The number of times when I died drowning because my last jump ended into deep water, or when I was helplessly retaking my breath close to my target, and let a deer flee, or a brute deal a devastating blow, or being stuck in some roots and stones at the end of a running/jumping action, to just stare at a tree log swung from above...
