Maybe, but you are wasting a lot of resources taming nonstar-boares.

Its not really a waste. You can tame no star boars on day one of a game and once you have some bred you can cull them by switching PVP settings on. No butcher knife needed. I always have surplus raspberries after day 2 so its easy to get a sounder going and cooked boar meat (and later boar jerky and turnip stew) is better than plain raspberries Once you out level carrots you can feed them to the boars and when you out level boar meat products you can feed the boar meat to your wolves. On some seeds you won't find a starrred boar on your starting island because they won't spawn within 500 meters of the starting stones. That means that you'll have to advance beyond the meadows (and to a different island) to tame your first starred boar which likely means that you have to have enough surtling cores to make 2 portals especially since you need them for your smelter and kiln.
