"Feature bloat is when too many features are packed into a design, resulting in a product that is 'bloated' or stuffed with unnecessary elements. ... This results in products that are complicated, confusing or hard to use." - 5 second Google search
Now, don't come at me saying things like "don't like it, don't play it" or "git gud". This is not a rant on problems the game currently faces, or an opinion post. This is a concern about the game's increase in content and how it could make the game more complicated than it should be.
Complicated, of course, as in "what is the point of all this?" and "why do I have to do all of that?", not as in difficulty. More does not always equal better; smithing chainmail armor in real life is extremely time consuming and can be awfully tedious if you're not very enthusiastic about smithing. So should we make the process of smithing armor in the game just like in real life?
Of course, well implemented and polished content is always welcome and it's great to have a game that can provide hours and hours of fun. I'm not saying it should have less content. But, it's kind of like shaping a sword; a simple, straight blade will cut and do just as promised, but if you fill that poor thing with curves, spikes and holes, it'll become rather complicated to use and all that "content" will become a nuisance.
I'm already noticing a pattern coming in with the most recent update. Hearth & Home swapped the simple food system with something more complex that would require you to spend more time planning how you consume food in the game, making the game in general a bit more complex. It's not that bad and the devs did a proper good job at balancing it, but they have already taken a step towards making the game more complicated, diverging from simple. And sometimes, complicated = tiresome, boring, unfun. Not saying the update was bad, of course.
I just don't want the game to become a chore to play. And I hope the new content we get is fun, too. That's the point in games after all. I love Valheim and that's why I have concerns about it.
TL;DR: More ≠ Better. Please focus on quality and not on quantity, for future updates.
imho valheim is far,far away from beein "bloated" in any way
the devs have plans for content to be added and the empty biomes are need to be filled.
for an title in development valheim world pretty good and when compared to many AAA titles that failed in the end valheim is on a good way to keep things uncomplicated and straight forward
if player fails - the player have done something wrong or is moving thru the wrong biome
