Hmmm--I know the issue you speak of but never bothered me. Just hit "R" to unequip, do your thing, hit "R" to re-equip the hammer. Seems okay to me but I can see how others may get frustrated if they're always carrying their hammer around and don't know they need to unequip it...and don't know about the "R" key to fast equip/unequip. As for the crafting methods...this feels more subjective, really. Crafting is fine, to me, it works and makes sense (mostly). Just don't have the same opinion I suppose but maybe the Home and Hearth update will clean up crafting process a bit.
