Doing that every 8 minutes, again, adds tedium and not difficulty. I do not want to sit in place waiting for the resting bonus to pop every 8 minutes. I want to explore and fight things without feeling like a fat guy sucking wind just from walking.

If you can't handle sitting for 30 seconds, you really chose the wrong game. Having to run back or build a new structure for rested would be tedious. Placing a campfire for a quick buff is not.
