Please be aware that modding can and will break your game, if the game is updated and your mod is not. Always be cautious when using mods, even updated mods can interact with the game in a weird way (keypresses ignored and such).
I highly recommend using the ThunderStore mod manager, if you want to mod it the most safe way you can. You can search for mods directly in the manager, you can download them from there, and ThunderStore will take care of all dependancies, notify you of updates and allows you to individually en-, or disable mods.
Please also be mindful that mods that ADD stuff to the game WILL break your world with the vanilla game. You will always be dependent on this mod to function!
Valheim is still a game in development and updates will most likely break mods.
You also should do regular backups of your Valheim save game (modding or not). You can find it at:
Unfortunately the AppData folder is hidden at first and needs to be made visible. Let us know if you need help with that.
Good luck and have fun modding your game! I highly recommend though to do a vanilla playthrough first and then start modding, so you get the intended experience.
