So far on the world my wife and I are playing we've combed a BIG swamp biome and there wasn't a single Crypt in the entire thing. Now we're trying to find another one with a meadow or forest biome bordering it so we can base there and foray into the swamp instead of trying to go all Saving Private Bjornson on the swamp shore and getting chewed up by swarming mobs.

I'm all in on the 'base on the border' technique. That 1st crypt adventure for me was a decent base on the edge of the Black Forest and just kept creeping in until I found the crypts (and 2 surtling fountains). I built a portal on top of the crypts and cut the travel and recovery time in half. Good luck!

Been playing a no-portal run, and went off to lay claim to the Bonemass swamp. It took days to get there, sailing from one end of the world to the other, trying to get around some huge continents in between, but finally got near it, and it's all swamp or plains!

There is a very small island of black forest with another very small (uninhabited) island of plains attached to it near the area of Bonemass, which provided a good place to land the ship and prepare for a beach landing in the swamp.

The next day I sailed across the water and picked what looked like a good spot to attempt the landing. Just as my ship pulled into land, an abomination started rising right next to my ship! I jumped out on the other side of the ship and started running to draw him away from the ship, but ran into a cluster of draugr and skeletons.

I took down three draugr while the skeletons pestered me, with a small amount of health to spare... until a draugr archer showed up and finished me off!

Now I'm sitting on the other side of an unswimable waterway that leads to the shore of a swamp, in a minimal "lean-to", with all my stuff and my longship on the other side. What a pickle!


On the topic of the thread. I've found crypts with well over 100 iron scrap, and others with essentially nothing, so it ca vary quite widely.
