Not to be critical, and only to be helpful, I believe you need to upgrade your gear before you scout about or go after iron or swamp biomes.

Looking at your screenshot a flint knife, club and crude bow will get you killed rather fast in a swamp. Troll/brass armor, finewood bow, bronze weapons and tools are a must in the swamps.

Much of this game is grinding materials to upgrade gear in the biome you have just gotten access too, before you explore the next to avoid a lot of grief, i.e. bronze/black forest, then iron/swamp before going further. It can be done if you are aware of what is coming, but for a first time play through being too squishy will get you killed... frequently.
