Enemies can hear you. It happens in basically every biome with any enemy. Start gathering resources and watch what happens. They'll start walking in your direction.

Considered sailing with the wind instead of trying to force a straight line the direction you "want' to go? I suggest you look into tacking. And yes, sailing it effective in game.

Not necessarily a fake. They may have used a mod. For example, Greyling Minions is a thing at Thunderstore and Nexus. I haven't seen one for Fuling yet.

for me, NOT using the graphics feature "SSAO" makes things lighter in general and does make the swamp a bit easier to see in. might work for you too if you still have it on

Put comfort items that you don't use or are decorative only but don't fit your decor in the roof above your bed/resting spot. They are out of sight but still give full benefit.
