There are mods to make mining playable. I agree vanilla mining is tedious.

if it helps any, looking UP often tells you the biome from a little farther out. Plains has the big rocks. Mountains are obvious. Jagged trees are swamps. meadows isnt important. Dark forest is smooth..

When you defeat one of the bosses, a device you receive may also help you here, sometimes. I don't want to be too specific for spoilers.

I have trouble with the sneak button, changing the key bind to another key did not help either so I just can't sneak whatever I do.
