I've never found a 1 or 2 star deer within 800 meters of the world center (just like boar and neck). Other than that the table in the wiki seems spot on with my experience.

One additional point is that Wolf Armor isn't far beyond Iron. So going Root then upgrading to Heavy Wolf Armor is also super-viable.

It's alright as it is imho. The more so if it taught your friends to be afraid of dying and to be more careful.

Oh people, you can get silver equipment before doing Eikthyr. Bronze, troll or Root armor is all you really need, just make an Iron Pick and have some mead.
