This fix works well for most unity games. I am not even sure why developers that use unity have not bothered adding this fix in themselves.

You lose your rested bonus when you log off and back on but if you are swimming (as opposed to walking through deep water) you can't regenerate stamina anyway.

Your skill with bows is probably much higher than when you first wielded the crude bow. That alone would make a noticeable difference in the bow's performance.
