I mostly try to use a nearby Surtling Spawner it is a hugh fire and you need to dig around it anyway to perma farm coal and surtling cores without actually fighting.

If you stand on the top of the sunken crypts and fire arrows at them(fire are nice) they're super easy.Also the bonfire method is pretty easy.

Anytime you get a new resource tier, tools are always first. better tools = more resources faster.
