My experience is, if the wolf was just hurt in a fight and I fed it the wolf heals at around .1 rate. If my wolfs were hurt fighting at night outside my base and I checked on them the next day and fed..

You'll need bronze armor in order to do Swamp. Until bronze though, don't bother upgrading anything. It's just a waste of resources.
